URGENT: They’re Burning Sea Lions!

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is reportedly branding sea lions so that individual animals caught eating protected salmon can be identified and gunned down.

Astoria-area residents have reportedly observed men herding these gentle animals into traps only to burn their flesh repeatedly with a blazing-hot iron. Billows of smoke have allegedly been seen rising into the air during these assaults, and victims have been described as “[lying] on the docks trembling”—an indication of extreme stress or pain.

Disturbing photos given to PETA, which appear to corroborate these reported brandings, can be viewed hereYour voice is needed!

Using the form here, please politely urge ODFW officials to immediately stop the branding and killing of sea lions. Remind officials that these animals are just trying to survive and feed their families, so they should be left alone. If ODFW wants to protect salmon stocks, then banning fishing in its waters would be a good start. If sea lions must be controlled, they can be humanely and effectively deterred using physical and visual barriers.

FACEBOOK: STOP BLOCKING ANIMAL RESCUERS/ADVOCATES FROM POSTING

Facebook has been “warning” and deactivating accounts of animal rights activists who work together to try and get high risk animals out of shelters. Facebook feels that their activity should be labeled as “spam” and stops them from being able to post. This is pretty important because people devoted to sharing and finding connections in other shelters are the ones saving these animal’s lives. I’ve personally known many people who work together and rescue animals on the euthanasia list and move them to foster homes, no-kill shelters, or forever homes. For every account deactivated, its one less person working together to get the word out and transport these animals elsewhere. Most of these people are volunteers and do not get paid/reimbursed for travel costs or adoption fees.

Farm Bill gives Monsanto unbelievable powers over US food supply
December 30, 2012

While you are distracted by the horror show of the Fiscal Cliff, Congress is trying to slip by another agricultural disaster -The Farm Bill. The greatest benefit of this bill goes to the Monsanto corporation -you know the chemical bio-ag company that has been charged with piracy in India, banned in South America and Europe and who have proven to be a criminal enterprise.

The large seed manipulator Monsanto spent $7 million on this bill alone to grant itself unheard of power and authority over GMO seed in the US food supply.

Monsanto has always had the intention of complete domination of the food supply over governments, over people and all over the globe.

That is a monopoly by a mega corporation on the very food that keeps humanity alive. They want power and they want it now.

GMO seed contains pesticides -right in the seed germ, and has caused major agricultural damage in many country’s around the world, so much damage that many countries have banned Monsanto from growing any seed on their land. In India, cotton farmers lost everything to Monsanto who promised higher yields, but when crops failed over 100,000 farmers committed suicide over their losses.

While the media is concentrating on just one aspect of the Farm Bill, which is the rise in milk prices, they are ignoring the very dangerous parts.

Who Wrote This Bill and Who Benefits

The Chairman of the Farm Bill is none other than Frank D. Lucas of Oklahoma who received large cash donations to his election campaign.

”The power of Monsanto can be seen through its contributions to Rep. Frank D. Lucas, who’s received the most money so far from Monsanto. Lucas just happens to be chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, through which every farm-related piece of legislation must pass. But he’s certainly not the only one wheel getting greased by this biotech giant,” said Dr. Mercola.

Booby Trapped Farm Bill Gives Monsanto Unprecedented Powers

This bill is booby trapped with unheard of powers given to Monsanto the Genetically Modified Seed company, which deregulates their product.

a) The bill disregards any study on pesticide seeds made by Monsanto and accelerates their products to the marketplace.

b) Unrestricted GMO growing which will invade organic farms completely.

c) Monsanto will own the master seeds to the US food supply giving the corporation a complete monopoly and power over government officials.

d) The Farm Bill states that Environmental Laws do not apply to their products even though GMO plants contain pesticides in the seed germ, and require much more pesticide applied, that run off into the water table will be allowed.

e) The bill gives the US Dept of Agriculture a Nazi like power and authority on GMO crops  over any group or agency. In essence this gives the USDA more power and authority.

f) Deadlines on approvals are enforced and make it impossible to study any new Monsanto products or GMO seeds, if the USDA cannot approve the GMO product it will AUTOMATICALLY BE APPROVED.

Whomever wrote this bill was a big-ag corporate puppet for Monsanto and the deep cuts to Food Stamp recipients will leaving people starving in the street hitting the poor with a massive and deadly attack on the very poor.

Passing this bill takes the authority out of the hands of the USDA and gives it to a very powerful and dangerous Corporation that is entirely built around selling pesticides. Like Dow Chemicals, Monsanto is attempting to insert pesticides into plant seeds claiming they need less pesticide spraying which is a lie. Studies have found GMO plants need “more” not less pesticide spray and Monsanto profits soar because they also own patents on Round Up.

The deregulating of Monsanto GMO seed means that no organic farmer can file a lawsuit against Monsanto ever again.

The deregulation of Monsanto GMO means the corporation will control the US food supply completely and totally.

The Farm Bill Deregulation of Monsanto and GMO plants means Americans will be swallowing more pesticides than every before making them sicker and more subjected to diseases.

The Vegan Diet - How to, Benefits and Facts!

High resolution version

I hate Peta, for one. I also hate how vegan diets are always “sold” as a weight loss diet or that you’ll get a “slim waistline” very fast. No…not how it works. There are plenty of fat vegans, there are plenty of skinny vegans. I didn’t lose any weight switching to a vegan diet. You know what the best part of being a vegan is?? Vegan junk foooood, lots and lots of pizza and chips 4 ever

I know that the “facts” in this photo isn’t a 100% correct, even if pandas and gorillas eat FAR less meat than we do.

But pointing at your canine tooth to justify the mass production and the quantities of which we consume meat, is still retarded.

Just don’t take this pic too seriously, people.

Also, I did not make this.

Xoxo

Using the word “retarded” to get your point across isn’t working - try not offending people if you want them to listen to you.

“Our fast “food” display is now 2 years old. The word food is questionable, since the bread-like and meat-like substances have not molded or spoiled in any way. Bugs won’t even bother with it. Please think twice about giving this to your kids. You have a choice, but they don’t. We truly are what we eat.” -LiveWell Wellness Center

oh fuck

ew ew ew ew ew  - how many chemicals and preservatives do you rekon they put in these babys to make them stay like that? Just think, what you’re eating on the day could be god knows how old and you’ll never know because it ALWAYS looks like this!

Ughhhhk. Why why why? I might as well as drink rubber cement. At first I thought that just looked gross ( I thought it was fresh, because let’s be honest, that’s exactly what it looks like when you first get it), but now knowing it’s looked that for 2 years…? NO. Come on people, use your brains. Don’t put this junk in yo bodies.

Came across this Apple Pie Baked In the Apples recipe, and decided to make it for dessert to celebrate 3 sisters-in-law coming into town tonight. They were delicious- being able to eat the container of your dessert is weirdly satisfying, but I wish there had been more crust- if it would have adhered properly, I would have wrapped the entire apple in pie dough before I put it into the oven. Anyways, the Granny Smith apples were awesome, but the Pink Lady was the best cause it was so sweet. Mine are gluten free and vegan (made with almond flour) but this is pretty easy to replicate with your personal fav pie dough and apple filling recipe- just cut the apples up extra small for the filling, and for the apple “bowls”, cut off the top, use a paring knife to score the inside of the apple pretty deeply without cutting through to the other side, then use the spoon to scoop everything out.

Even though I know “perfect person” is a completely untrue, unfair thing call somebody, I find myself thinking it of you an awful lot.

Also: holy crap that looks so good. Saving this for later.

Oh my…

Shark Extinction: The Shocking Truth

Ocean lovers everywhere, we are at crisis point. The top predator species in the food chain of our oceans is being hunted to extinction. Some shark specie populations are estimated to have declined by over 99% since the 1970′s!

The repercussions for marine eco-systems are dramatic and have devastating consequences down the food chain. To name but one example, species of Rays and Skates can explode leading in turn to the shocking decline of shellfish fisheries and a rapid reduction in water quality. And that’s just for starters!

you know vegans would have a leg to stand on if they just accept that not everyone is gonna be like that. I like meat! I wont hide that behind some health reason, though Im sure that there are health risk associated with it.  what would these vegans do with all the animals that have been domesticated and breed solely for the meat the provide?

In a vegan society, there would be no domesticated animals for meat. These animals don’t just happen—they are raised for people to purchase and consume. They simply wouldn’t be produced by vegans and/or only live on sanctuaries.

The question is, what’s ethical? Not whether you like it. Unless you follow hedonism, which means you believe that if something makes you feel good, it is ethical. Do you think because you can enjoy something, it is the ethical thing to do?

Question a society that tells you it is okay to oppress and kill other beings (which show love, attachment and empathy for their children, mourn their dead, and are capable of suffering) because “you like it” or because “other people do it” or because you “don’t care.” Question an industry that encourages and thrives off of your apathy while they destroy your environment, keep poor people poor, abuse human rights, and abuse animals, as they take your money.

Well-fucking said.

Okay, so this is NOT a health post, and I am NOT saying “Everyone go consume a bunch of processed sugary junk!” —- this is a YAY VEGANISM IS WINNING post.

My roommate is going through a pretty rough week, so the other night we went for a walk down Boylston. She had never been into Sugar Heaven, so I brought her inside and she had a ball trying all the candy. I was just idly browsing, thinking maybe I’d find a little something extra to add into my next giveaway, when one of the girls working there showed me this special list!

Not only do they have tons of vegan options, they have it advertised for the convenience of vegans!

Let’s go buy some amaretto cordials? I tried them - they’re… All I want for every Valentine’s Day from now on forever.

I just love seeing things like this.
