Carriage Horse Dies in NYC Street.

theinformedvegan:

horse dies in NYC

Concerned New York residents are calling for an investigation after a carriage horse knelt down and died in the middle of a busy Manhattan street on Sunday.

En route the Central Park near 54th and 8th Ave, a large white horse used by the NYC carriage industry knelt down and died in the middle of the road. The law enforcement unit of the New York ASPCA is one of the groups calling for an investigation telling the New York Daily News, “The ASPCA has long believed that carriage horses were never meant to live and work in today’s urban setting.” A no brainier for anyone who knows anything about horses but still the industry persists.

Horses in the NYC carriage industry are forced to work nine hours a day in almost every weather condition. They spend their entire lives pounding sensitive hooves on hard pavement while they navigate some of the most reckless and dangerous traffic conditions. At the end of their lives, when they’ve been worked to exhaustion, many are sold to slaughterhouses where they are butchered and sold for meat.

Being carriage horse is no walk in the park. If they don’t die the streets, these gentle and caring horses are worked to the brink of death and slaughtered all in an effort to turn a quick buck for their owner. This poor horse’s death underscores the need for a ban on the industry.

Enough is enough, end the use of carriage horses now.

The Informed Vegan: Bob’s Red Mill Funds Animal Testing.

Bob’s Red Mill Funds Animal Testing.

Bob's Red Mill funds animal testing

Bob’s Red Mill’s standing as a conscious and compassionate company is about to take a serious hit. The grain seller is donating $25 million to the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), an institution responsible for extensive animal testing.

Bob and Charlee Moore of Bob’s Red Mill have chosen to give OHSU this massive donation for “nutrition education” and “research on obesity and other diseases.” OHSU will not deny that the funds will be used to conduct animal experimentation or provide a special guarantee that these funds won’t be spent on animal testing.

OHSU is one of the most notorious animal testing schools in the world. According to whistleblowers, OHSU hires unqualified low-paid workers to conduct sloppy and unscientific experiments. Animals, like baby monkeys, are kept in cramped cages in standing water and bodily fluids where disease and sickness are rampant. All the experiments, including the most absurd ones, are done in the name of “health research.” A few years ago, OHSU famously spent close to $1 million terrorizing baby monkeys with Mr. Potato Head dolls as part of an obesity study.

When I heard Bob’s was donating to support OHSU I immediately contacted both parties. After several exchanges, neither party will deny that the funds will be spent on animal testing. Bob’s is avoiding discussing animal testing altogether and OHSU is defending their legacy of experimentation. Jim Newman from OHSU told me over e-mail that, “There are currently no other ways to obtain this info that assists both human and animal medicine.”

Bob’s Red Mill runs a serious risk by taking their customer’s money and giving it to a notorious animal tester. Their loyal customer base of animal lovers and vegans may boycott them if they choose to go through with the donation.

To encourage OHSU to stop their animal experimentation, tweet @OHSUnews or @ONPRC.

To express your disappointment over the donation, tweet @Bobs_Red_Mill or contact them via their site.

Bob’s Red Mill, WHY. I love your shit! What the hell am I going to eat for breakfast now??

NOOOO! Fuck. Go fuck yourself, Bob. You and your Red Mill. The red mill covered with the blood of the animals you’re hurting. I’m boycotting your sorry ass.

This is extremely disappointing. For shame, Bob. I hope this means that Whole Foods will stop selling the brand, due to their animal testing beliefs, if that’s even true.

UGH time to find another place to buy GF baking products.

ALSO he is super proud of his donation judging by his tweets/replies. So feel free to knock him down by posting a tweet talking about his decision!!

The Importance of Enzymes and Raw Foods.

Enzymes drive biological processes necessary for your body to build raw materials, circulate nutrients, eliminate unwanted chemicals, and the myriad of other biochemical processes.

Digestive enzymes help you break down food and metabolic enzymes help the cell carry out a variety of functions related to its reproduction and replenishment.

You get (or should be getting) many enzymes from the foods you consume—particularly, raw foods. These directly help with your digestive process. Other enzymes are produced in your pancreas.

The more raw foods you eat, the lower the burden on your body to produce the enzymes it needs, not only for digestion, but for practically everything. Whatever enzymes are not used up in digestion are then available to help with other important physiological processes.

It is a sad fact that 90% of the food Americans buy is processed Diets heavy in cooked, processed, and sugary foods combined with overuse of pharmaceutical drugs such as antibiotics, deplete your body’s ability to make enzymes. This is one of the reasons it’s so important to eat your foods raw.  Raw foods are enzyme-rich, and consuming them decreases your body’s burden to produce its own enzymes. The more food that you can eat raw, the better. Ideally, you should get 75% of your digestive enzymes from your food.

In addition to heat, enzymes are also very sensitive to shifts in pH, which is why different enzymes work in different parts of your digestive tract, based on the pH each enzyme needs in order to function.

While all raw foods contain enzymes, the most powerful enzyme-rich foods are those that are sprouted (seeds and legumes). Sprouting increases the enzyme content in these foods tremendously. Besides sprouts, other enzyme-rich foods include:

  • Papaya, pineapple, mango, kiwi, and grapes
  • Avocado
  • Raw honey (enzymes come from bee’s saliva)
  • Bee pollen
  • Extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil
